Galaxy and FAMIS Access

As of 2026 due to a security issue, a new security protocol has been implemented requiring the DOE network to access MyGalaxy and FAMIS.  There are two ways you can access Galaxy and FAMIS now:

- On a DOE/ATS-networked computer

- Principals and TO Maintainers (who were already in Galaxy on Jan 5) can access myGalaxy via DOE VPN. Users who already had access to FAMIS on Jan 14 can access it via DOE VPN. See instructions below:

New Sign-In Steps for myGalaxy or FAMIS:

To keep our systems secure, you now need to be on the DOE network to use myGalaxy or FAMIS:

What to do:

  1. Anyone who was listed as a charter principal or TO maintainer on January 5, 2026 or had FAMIS access on January 14 should use Chrome to access this link to go to the DOE VPN browser:
Office of Nonpublic and Charter School VPN Portal
  2. Sign into myGalaxy using your DOE email address (@schools.nyc.gov). Sign into FAMIS using your FAMIS credentials.

What to expect when you sign in:

After you enter your login information, you will see a dashboard with access to FAMIS, RTE Connect, or myGalaxy. Click the link to access each system. Note that it may not work properly with an incognito browser. If you continue to receive the DOE network error after completing these steps, close your browser and start from a new Chrome instance.

Please note, you may be routed to the general DOE sign-in page as an interim step if you have not recently logged into a DOE application. Both are normal.

Note that RTE Connect continues to be available through the usual pathways, but this is an option for folks with the VPN access to also access these systems.

Please note that any users granted principal or TO maintainer role or FAMIS access in the future will not immediately have access to the VPN site. We are working on next steps so that as changes are made to roles, permissions are updated accordingly.
